Our 100K House
Riverways Farmhouse was chosen out of 100s of applicants to take part in the second series of the BBCs "The House a 100k Built" which aired in July 2015.
We had already designed our farmhouse in accordance with ourplanning restrictions of a Temporary Agricultural Workers Dwelling that would be sympathetic to the surrounding farm. We wanted our new house to blend in to the farm not to stand out.
Before we had even started any ground work the program’s resident experts Piers Taylor and Keiron Long were on hand with ideas, suggestions and advice. We knew we only had one chance to build our family home so every decision and idea had to be carefully considered from big things like internal walls to door handles. The final result exceeded everyone expectation of what could be achieved for less than 100k.
We tried as much as possible to use local trades people and we even managed to source local trees for our cladding and internal finishing touches. Ebay was also very useful too we even managed to get our builder off there.
Even though the program is only an hour it took around 40 days to capture the whole process. We got to have a couple of inspirational visits too for ideas, the build budgets for them tended to be at least 4x as much.
We saw the program for the first time when it went out and was very pleased with the final result. All in all it was a very enjoyable process and the crew were brilliant.
Hope you enjoyed it.
